OUR STORY

In 1979, David returned to Throstlenest from Cordwainers as a qualified Saddler and established a saddlery workshop making and repairing all types of saddlery and bridle work, in those days it was mainly repairs with a small amount of stock as a side line. As the word spread David started making more and more new items from Hackney Harness to Designer leather chairs featured in interior magazines. As the workshop got busier so did the shop, and when David married Jayne they worked as a team, expanding the business with several showroom expansions and shop openings - their favourite one being graced by the great Milton and John Whitaker, where everyone had a fantastic night.

Always having an involvement with horses, David competed from a young age under the watchful eye of his father, a respected judge who has judged at the Horse of the Year show. David also enjoyed eventing up to intermediate level. Whereas Jayne had a more normal 'begging for a pony' for years approach coming from a non horsey family - looking after her pony by herself and hacking miles to shows and begging lifts from friends who had transport. She dragged herself up to Novice level affiliated eventing after marrying David - enjoying being a team with her horse as much as any prize. They have run a Horse trials in the 1990's - David building the course also, loving every minute with his friends, Michael Spivey and Gary Barlow. They have owned event horses, (retired now) competed by Oliver Townend up to four star level and just love being part of the Horse community in general. After 35 years in the saddlery business hopefully we have translated our energy and friendly service from our Throstlenest store to the Internet so that your shopping experience is both enjoyable and informed.
