Are Fairfax Girths Worth The Money?

We have to be honest, it’s a question you are entitled to ask. Why should you pay over £200.00 for a girth when there are other, perfectly adequate girths available for a fraction of that price? And there is no simple answer to that question. If you are just starting out you should absolutely look at the lower end girths – at least until you feel it could enhance your horse’s comfort and/or performance.

But if you are a little more experienced, then you usually start looking for something a little more quality. Everyone wants their horse to perform to their best and to be as comfortable as possible, and to be perfectly honest, there are clear benefits for your horse when upgrading to a high end girth like the Fairfax.

Why should I trust a Fairfax?

The only opinion that counts is yours, all we can do is provide some sound advice and some facts.

Firstly, Fairfax provides the only girth that’s been tested in line with the BEF World Cass programme. This involved putting their product to the test in real events (on 18 show-jumping horses!), and the findings indicated real improvements in these top class horses!

Improvements

Unlike some girths which can slightly restrict a horse’s breathing and movement, Fairfax products are specifically designed to allow the horse full and free movement of its muscles without the need to rub against the girth, so you get a happier, and often better moving horse.

But we digress, let’s go back to talking about the BEF trial results! After the trial, EVERY horse was described to have improved:

 1. Shoulder and knee flexion over fences.
 2. Under saddle pressure.

For the real in-depth analysis, look no further than the official Fairfax website, where the full findings are listed!

Who should get one?

They are perfect for experienced riders, and these girths are a real necessity for Eventers, Dressage riders and show jumpers - such are the current performance benefits. We would say that in reality, these categories should strongly consider a Fairfax or other ‘high quality’ girth:

 1. Competition riders
 2. Riders whose horse shows under-carriage discomfort.
 3. Riders who desire a more relaxed stride from their horse.

Who shouldn’t

Well in an ideal world everybody would have the best equipment they could buy, but, like we said at the start: if you are a beginner, then you could be better off looking into the cheaper girths, at least until you become more seriously involved in riding!
